On Saturday, Emily, Aubrey, Annie and I attended the
Global Citizen Festival, a concert for charity to help fight extreme poverty with performances by
K'naan,
Band of Horses, the Black Keys, Foo Fighters, and Neil Young. I couldn't think of anything better than free
music, Central
Park, and raising awareness of a huge global issue.
Celebrities like Katie Couric, Olivia Wilde, and the great Selena Gomez helped to host the event along with the bands. John Legend also performed a few songs, including a version of my man John Lennon's "Imagine" (which I attempted to sing/play on my guitar at
one point, but not nearly as well as John Legend).
In addition to the celebs and music, there was of course the charity portion of the show. Representatives from foundations and companies pledged to donate millions of dollars to fight poverty and lots of videos were played which featured global poverty goals such as polio eradication, water cleanliness, maternal health, and environmental sustainability.
